Tenth Session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues
16-27 May 2011, UN Headquarters, New York. The meetings featured many water and water-related issues, including the human right to water and sanitation, the rights of Indigenous Peoples to water (click here for a 2-page factsheet and click here for a statement from West Africa), and extractive industries and mega projects (click to see a 30min webcast of the press conference).
International Conference on Global Dimensions of Change in River Basins, Bonn, Germany, 6-8 December 2010, sponsored by the Global Water Systems Project, explored the impacts of not only climate change, but also population growth and economic development on river basins. Values and ethics are also changing and can be anlysed as a global dimension of change. WCI Director, David Groenfeldt moderated two sessions on Water Ethics and presented a conceptual framework for water and environmental ethics (click here for the presentation).
